FWIW Phil Muldoon is working on a new gdb/Python feature called "frame filters" that will let interpreters add additional data to backtraces. The idea is to be able to see the "raw" (implementation) stack frames and the "filtered" (interpreted) frames at the same time. This won't be in 7.4 but I hope it will be in the release after that.
