I'm fine with both. Yes, I have tried to position the toolbar at the left and right and unlike at the bottom the page gets rescaled which I would find annoying too. Another thing is that most people have wide screens in which case the bottom should be at least as fast accessible as the side so I wouldn't change the current position.
