a subject like "build error: No rule to make target `autogen.lastrun'" , for example would have 1/ attracted -at least- my attention much earlier 2/ would be much more useful to other people that run into that very same problem, searching an answer in the ML archive :-) on a side note: You did actually identify the problem and a solution from the beginning. Another way to get stuff more/faster attention would have been to attach a proposed patch to fix it and add [PATCH] in the subject line.
