I believe that there is some sort of Linux python-based app that allows folks to inspect all sorts of files in a GUI interface (I've used it before).
I can't for the life of me remember it's name, but I've used it for inspecting EMFs when chasing down EMF bugs. I'm currently chasing down fdo#8053, where it appears we aren't handling an EMF properly, this tool would be really useful! https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80503 Chris
