... Not sure what bit you're missing, especially as I haven't looked at the docx/new rtf stuff much. But sw/source/filter/ww8 has some sample SvxParaVertAlignItem uses, and presumably lxring for style::VerticalAlignment_TOP should throw up some uno api entry points into it maybe.
