just played a bit with that extension, really nice - but why would you want to go for a _C_ lib? As Michael mentions, there's a prototype patch to handle Smart art in Draw/Impress, it's here: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/build/tree/patches/dev300/oox-smartart-import.diff Would be cool to work on that jointly!
