So, I'm not entirely comfortable removing this mechanism *just yet*. Looking at several issues in the OOo bug trackers there are still quite a few users relying on this mechanism. So it appears that this mechanism may not be as legacy we first thought. And those files we've removed are actually example files for this framework. This explains why they weren't being built during the normal build. Anyway, let's not remove this code just yet.
