Yep, I was thinking of having a go at this. I'm a physicist, and all my colleagues use LaTeX for document preparation (well, the theorists, anyway, the experimentalists often use Word, but then they don't need many equations :-P), or Powerpoint or Keynote for lecture / conference slides, because the equation creation and rendering in OO.o is painful.
