Yep, I tried with both the most recent master (well, as of two days ago), and the 3.3 stable branch. Both counted the open quote as a word without my patch, and then didn't after I applied the patch. So I'm baffled about what's going on. I've just pulled the most recent master again, and it's currently building but I'm about to go to bed. I'll investigate further tomorrow.
