You have to enable the mode in Tools > Options, sure. We can discuss this.

It enables the mode meaning you get the icon on hover and collapse a chapter on
click.

What's collapsed is your choice.

Don't see "collapsible elements in normal view" as simpler.
Please take a look again on the new feature, it's more or less exactly what you
are looking for.
