Not sure, but I don't think the effect is intentional kerning, just the layout
of the text runs following use of the color attribute on 'book'. Nothing
changes for the text run preceding the changed attribute, i.e. not affecting
the full line of text.
Another manifestation, and dupe, of bug 103322?
