I see this issue on ver. 6.0.1.1 (tested on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and 17.10).
It happens most notably when you try to open files on a read-only device (e.g.
CD/DVD-ROM or a mounted ISO image).
LibreOffice reports the following error: "General input/output error while
accessing <file path>".
