My bibisect suggests it went wrong in
git log
825098182227fdca958f84235d278c41b2b942ab..333f8a76341f5b4921e89012d133007503e49612
but a lot of those commits are related to idles and timers which makes me
wonder if this is something fragile which sort of works sometimes and sometimes
not in variable way as code gets tweaked
