Philippe Cloutier <[email protected]> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |[email protected] Summary|Revamp the online update |Options: online update |dialog |dialog is confusing (“Check | |for updates automatically” | |vs “Enable automatic | |update”) Severity|enhancement |minor --- Comment #7 from Philippe Cloutier <[email protected]> --- The second screenshot Heiko linked to is no longer available, but his following paragraph suffices. “Check for updates automatically” and “Enable automatic update” makes no sense as independent options. Thank you very much for the clear explanation Stephan. A MAR (Mozilla ARchive) file is (Basically) a delta/patch file. As of 26.8, the second (new, MAR-based) feature is no longer experimental, so what Heiko reports shows by default. I am taking the liberty to upgrade this issue's severity. The options were visibly not labelled to be displayed together, so until the traditional mechanism is removed, the dialog is at best confusing (if not misleading). The user would expect that no automatic updates would occur if “Check for updates automatically” is unchecked, but that is presumably not necessarily the case. Basically, unless both checkboxes are unchecked, behavior is unclear. Unless there is a plan to dump the traditional mechanism soon, adding some temporary clarifying element (say a “New update mechanism” header) would help, even if we can't afford to localize it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
