Bug ID: 174083
Summary: French: ”Languages and Locales" translated to "Langues
et locales"
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.6.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Localization
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
To solve issue #157716, OptionsDialog.Nodes.LanguageSettings was renamed from
"Language settings" to "Languages and Locales". The latter was translated to
French as "Langues et locales", but “locales” is only an adjective in French:
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/locale#French
I am a senior developer and French is my native language and I am not aware of
a French term equivalent to “locale” in the computing sense. In Microsoft
Windows 11, the equivalent classic panel is called “Région”. In the modern UI,
it is called “Heure et langue” and “Langue et région”.
I am guessing this specific instance is defined in
https://git.libreoffice.org/translations/+/refs/heads/master/source/fr/dictionaries/en/dialog/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office.po#27
but I see several instances elsewhere.
This persists in 26.8.1.1.
