            Bug ID: 173772
Summary: Adopt the "ghost-cut" approach to cutting
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 27.2.0.0 alpha0+ master
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: LibreOffice
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

First, read:

https://ishmael.textualize.io/blog/ghost-cut/

which explains what

"Ghost-cut"'ing is a different approach to the implementation of cutting, which
partially delays the effect: After the cut action, the content is not
immediately removed, but rather marked as having been cut (e.g. shaded/colored
differently); when the content is pasted, it stops being visible and taking up
space at the original location, and becomes visible and taking up space at the
target. If other content is copied, or the app is closed, or the clipboard is
otherwise cleared - the cut is considered to have been abandoned and the
original content is not removed.

This is an interesting alternative to immediately-cutting. I want to start a
discussion about potentially adopting this in LibreOffice; but even if there is
positive feedback, it is a very fundamental change, so we would probably need
some wider consultation beyond the design team. For now let's see what we (=
people who notice this bug...) think about it.
