Calc indeed has the possibility to act on partial text within cells, but that is not the focus of spreadsheet tools (and thus there are several issues and limitations in that area). Calc can contain an image, but you would not expect Calc itself to be able to edit such image. In Writer you can have tables, but you would not expect Writer to be able to use and calculate every possible function that Calc supports. So, the procedure that allows to use F&R on one cell only, without affecting other cells, is to actually select the relevant cell. Please note that I do not mean just to have the cell as active cell (aka to focus on the cell with one click), but rather to have the cell "highlighted", as if you were to select a range, with the range being only the one relevant cell. Once the cell is actually selected, then F&R will (by default) allow you to enable the "Current selection only" checkbox. In that status, the replacement will act on the selected cell only. Now, let's assume you want even deeper control of the replacement within the cell, containing a long text with repeating occurrences, and that you want to replace only part of those occurrences. Just as with images within Calc, or with tables in Writer that contain calculations, you should use an adequate tool. You copy the long cell from Calc to Writer, edit the super long text with Writer, and copy the result from Writer to Calc. If I have a sports car, I would not expect it to behave as a truck in any situation, even if I had to transport a huge load. If I have a truck, I would not be able to drive at 200KM/H. Both are vehicles, but they are aimed at very different uses.
