            Bug ID: 173223
Summary: Writer: Add Tabbed layout option for navigating
document sections (related to but distinct from bug
                    33173)
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
Request for a new document layout option in Writer called “Tabbed”, to sit
alongside the existing Single Page, Multiple Pages, and Book view layouts.

The Tabbed layout would show named tabs for quick navigation within a single
document.

The tabs could reuse the same GUI design as the sheet tabs in Calc.

Tabs could be generated automatically from headings, or manually created.
Users would be able to switch easily between the tabbed view and the normal
continuous document view.

This is primarily a view/navigation feature, not full WordPro-style document
divisions (bug 33173).

Main use case: Documentation that mixes screenshots, text, and code. I'm a
software developer and I currently turn to Calc simply because its sheet tabs
make it easy to jump between sections using the tabs(e.g. “Code”, “Form
Design”, “Queries”).

Writer handles the content better but lacks equivalent rapid navigation.

Steps to Reproduce:
1 -Open a Writer document that contains several headings.
2 -Click 'tab view' for tabbed layout (similar to Single Page / Multiple Pages
/ Book).
(Currently no such option exists.)

Actual Results:
Writer has no Tabbed layout option. The only ways to jump between sections are
the Navigator, bookmarks, or scrolling.

Expected Results:
A new “Tabbed” layout option should be available next to Single Page, Multiple
Pages, and Book.
In this layout:

Named tabs appear along the bottom of the page (using the same design as Calc
sheet tabs).
Tabs are generated automatically from document headings, or can be created and
named manually.
Clicking a tab shows the corresponding section of the document.
The user can easily switch back to the normal continuous view.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
This is related to, but distinct from, bug 33173 (WordPro-style document
divisions). The request here is mainly for a lighter navigation/view mode
rather than full structural document divisions.
