Dragging a table/query from the database into Calc, creates a data range in Menu>Data>Define/Select range. Also there is an icon to do it in the base toolbar 'Data to Text' that does the same. After that, the data in the range can be update, by going to a cell in the range and then Menu>Data>Refresh range. But what is mandatory is to use the native file format ODS, to save, keeping the link alive. It is not saved using XLSX format.
