Agreed—from a technical standpoint, this functions as an enhancement, but from
a user experience standpoint, it feels like broken functionality.

End users expect data types to behave consistently across Calc. If a field is
recognized as a date in the source data and standard AutoFilters, the Pivot
Table filter drop-down should offer the same grouping convenience without
forcing manual workarounds. Implementing native date-grouping in Pivot Table
filters would drastically improve usability.
