Bug ID: 173190
Summary: Calc Sidebar: Border preview does not update when line
thickness is changed
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 24.8.0.0 alpha0+
Hardware: All
OS: Windows (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: UI
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
In LibreOffice Calc 26.2.5.2, the border preview in the Sidebar does not update
when the selected line style/thickness is changed.
The actual cell borders are changed correctly, but the small border preview
continues to show the previous thin line.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Calc.
2. Select a 3 × 3 range of cells.
3. Open the Sidebar: Properties → Cell Appearance.
4. Set the cell borders to 0.75 pt.
5. Select a thicker line style in the Line Style control.
6. Look at the small Border preview.1.
Actual Results:
The actual cell borders are changed correctly to the selected thicker line
style.
However, the small Border preview does not update. It continues to display the
thin line.
This means that the preview no longer reliably shows what will be applied when
selecting a predefined border combination.
Expected Results:
The Border preview should update and display the selected thicker line style.
The intended workflow is to select a 3 × 3 range with thin internal borders,
choose a thicker line style, and then select the predefined border preview
showing the thicker outside border.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
The actual cell borders are changed correctly to the selected thicker line
style.
However, the small Border preview does not update. It continues to display the
thin line.
This means that the preview no longer reliably shows what will be applied when
selecting a predefined border combination.
Additional testing
The problem is reproducible on two separate laptops, both running Windows 11
Pro.
The problem also occurs when LibreOffice is started in Safe Mode.
Closing and reopening the Sidebar does not change the behavior.
The actual border formatting works correctly; only the visual preview fails to
update.
Version comparison
This behavior is reproducible in LibreOffice 26.2.5.2.
LibreOffice 25.2.7.2 was also tested on the same computer. In 25.2.7.2 the
Border preview works as expected: after selecting the thicker line style, the
preview shows the thicker border.
Several versions from the 25.8 series were also tested. The desired workflow
could not be restored reliably with those installations; in some cases the
installation subsequently resulted in LibreOffice 26.2 being installed/used.
Therefore, 25.2.7.2 is currently being used as a temporary workaround because
the border preview works correctly there.
Regression
The described workflow worked in an earlier LibreOffice version.
In particular, LibreOffice 25.2.7.2 still behaves correctly, whereas
LibreOffice 26.2.5.2 does not.
I do not know the exact version in which the behavior changed.
Importance
The actual border formatting is still possible, but the problem makes the
Sidebar's predefined border combinations considerably less useful.
The previously convenient workflow was:
• select the 3 × 3 range,
• use 0.75 pt internal borders,
• select a thicker line style,
• click the predefined border preview showing the thicker outside border.
The last step is now difficult because the preview does not reflect the
selected line ths.
