First error message asking for recovery
Description
LibreOffice Writer frequently crashes while typing Sinhala text using the
m17n:si:wijesekera input method.
The crash most often occurs when pressing the F key to enter the Sinhala
kombuwa vowel sign (ෙ).
The crash is not reproducible 100% of the time, but it happens very frequently
(approximately 90% of attempts).
The issue appears to be specific to LibreOffice Writer. I cannot reproduce the
problem when typing Sinhala in other applications such as GNOME Text Editor or
a web browser.
After the crash, LibreOffice shows the Document Recovery dialog.
Steps to reproduce
1. Open LibreOffice Writer.
2. Switch the input method to Sinhala (m17n:si:wijesekera).
3. Start typing Sinhala text.
4. Press the F key to enter the Sinhala kombuwa vowel sign (ෙ).
5. Continue typing.
Expected result
LibreOffice Writer should continue working normally and allow Sinhala text
input.
Actual result
LibreOffice Writer crashes and shows the Document Recovery dialog.
Additional information
• The issue happens with both new and existing Writer documents.
• The issue occurs frequently, but not every single time.
• Tested with different Sinhala fonts (including Iskoola Pota); the issue
persists.
• The problem does not occur in other applications tested.
Tested with:
SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=gen libreoffice --writer
The crash still occurred.
System information
Operating System:
Ubuntu 26.04 LTS
Codename: resolute
LibreOffice:
26.2.4.2 620(Build:2)
Input method:
m17n:si:wijesekera
Desktop environment:
GNOME
Session type:
Wayland
Additional information:
I also use Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS with LibreOffice on another laptop. Using the
same Sinhala typing workflow with the same m17n:si:wijesekera input method does
not cause LibreOffice Writer to crash.
Comparison system:
Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS
LibreOffice: 24.2.7.2 420(Build:2)
Input method: m17n:si:wijesekera
Desktop environment: GNOME
Session type: Wayland
Result: No crash observed.
Regression information
The issue is reproducible on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS with LibreOffice 26.2.4.2, but
cannot be reproduced on Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS with LibreOffice 24.2.7.2 using the
same m17n:si:wijesekera input method. This suggests the problem may be a
regression introduced in a newer LibreOffice release or elsewhere in the
software stack.
