            Bug ID: 171953
Summary: feature suggestion: new checkbox in style edit pane /
                    tab: "INHERIT"
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 26.8.0.0 alpha0+ master
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

hi,

You have a style: niceone, based on Heading 5.
Heading 5 is based on Heading.

It is never clear what you need to change the font for each.

So, you'll change the font of Heading, and see what happens to niceone.

Nothing? Then change Heading 5, and see what happens.

Nothing? You change niceone.

But you can't be happy. Cause there are 5 more styles based on Heading which
you'd like to change font- and font-size-wise.

-----------
Suggestion:

1.
It would be great to have a checkbox: "inherit" at some style attributes (start
with font and font size).

That would create a clear situation.
You would know that you don't even have to check "niceone" if it has been
changed too when you changed Heading.

2.
There could also be a reset style button. (Something like this already exists?)
Which would mean: INHERIT ALL.

_________

a NOTE:

I suspect that "inherit" is already in use, internally by the Libreoffice
engine. Only the users are not involved. Plus, it is not clear how it actually
works. For example, if you once change, say, the 'font' of a style, will it
ever inherit like originally? I suspect: no.

I mean, the inherit option _could_ create a clear situation on the level of
development, too.
