Bug ID: 171262
Summary: Full-width brackets are compressed abnormally when the
"Compress punctuation and Japanese Kana" option is
enabled.
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 26.2.1.2 release
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: medium
Component: Writer
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Description:
When the "Compress punctuation only" or "Compress punctuation and Japanese
Kana" option is enabled in the Options menu under Languages and Locales →
Asian Layout, parentheses in the text box are abnormally compressed and may
overlap with other characters. This bug does not occur with text outside the
text box.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new document.
2. Open the Options window, click Languages and Locales, then click Asian
Layout, and enable the "Compress punctuation only" or "Compress punctuation and
Japanese Kana" option. (Note: This option only applies to a single document, so
you need to create a new document first and then modify the option.)
3. Create a new text box and write some Chinese characters (for example: "测试"),
as long as there are more than one line.
4. Add a full-width parenthesis (for example: "(" ")") to the first line of
Chinese characters.
5. Adjust the width of the text box. The software will compress the parentheses
in the first line to match the text length and text box width. When adjusted to
a suitable width, the parentheses will overlap with the characters.
Actual Results:
When full-width brackets are compressed, they overlap with other nearby
characters.
Expected Results:
When full-width characters are compressed, only the space on one side of the
character should be compressed. In other words, they should behave consistently
like text not in a text box.
Reproducible: Always
User Profile Reset: Yes
Additional Info:
You can see the specific manifestation of this bug in the screenshot I
uploaded. In the screenshot, the text at the top is outside the text box, and
the text at the bottom is outside the text box, which can provide you with a
comparison.
I tested this bug on both Windows and Linux (Debian) systems with LibreOffice
(version 26.2.1.2), and it reproduced on both.
