            Bug ID: 168098
Summary: Enhancement: Protect inline text (word/phrase) from
                    editing without creating a section
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 25.2.3.2 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Summary: Enhancement: Protect inline text (word/phrase) from editing without
creating a section

Description:
Currently, in LibreOffice Writer, protecting text from editing requires
creating a section. While this works for larger blocks of text, it causes
issues when the user needs to protect only small portions of text, such as a
word or short expression.

Creating a section for very small text fragments often disrupts the document
layout and makes editing less practical.

In Microsoft Word, it is possible to restrict editing of inline text directly
(e.g., protecting a single word, phrase, or expression) without changing the
structure of the document. This functionality is especially useful in:

contracts and legal documents (where certain terms must remain fixed),

templates and standardized forms,

collaborative documents where only specific phrases must be locked.

Request:
Introduce a feature in Writer that allows users to protect inline text (single
words or phrases) from editing, without the need to create a section. This
would make Writer more flexible and improve usability in professional
workflows.
