            Bug ID: 167837
Summary: Add "Distribute Characters Evenly" Button (like MS
                    Word)
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 25.2.4.3 release
          Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64)
                OS: Windows (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: Writer
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
Description:
In LibreOffice Writer, there is currently no one-click function to distribute
selected characters evenly across the line, similar to the "Distribute
Characters Evenly" button in Microsoft Word.

This feature is heavily used in official documents in Japan, especially in
administrative forms where text must be evenly spaced to fit within table cells
or specific form fields.

Currently, LibreOffice users need to manually adjust character spacing via
Format → Character → Position → Spacing → Expanded, which is time-consuming and
inconvenient for frequent use.

Request:
Please add a toolbar button or command to automatically distribute selected
text evenly across its line width (single-line adjustment, not full paragraph
justification), similar to MS Word’s functionality.

This will make LibreOffice more user-friendly for government and corporate
users who work with official forms and standardized templates.

Steps to Reproduce:
The steps below describe how the feature works in Microsoft Word:

1. Select the text you want to evenly distribute.
2. Click "Home" → "Paragraph" → click the "Distribute Characters Evenly" icon.
3. In the pop-up window, enter the number of characters you want to stretch the
text to fit.
4. The selected text is then evenly spaced across the specified number of
characters.

Actual Results:
There is no built-in function or toolbar button to distribute selected
characters evenly across a single line. Users must manually adjust character
spacing via Format > Character > Position > Spacing.

Expected Results:
A toolbar button or menu command is added that allows users to evenly
distribute selected characters across a single line, similar to the "Distribute
Characters Evenly" function in Microsoft Word.

Reproducible: Didn't try

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
This feature is especially important in Japanese administrative and business
documents, where text often needs to be evenly distributed within table cells
or form fields.

In Microsoft Word, this feature is frequently used to make text fit neatly in
standardized document formats.

Adding this function would make LibreOffice more attractive and usable for
government offices, schools, and companies in Japan and other countries with
similar document formatting practices.
