            Bug ID: 167781
Summary: "Restored documents after crash no longer open
automatically – restore dialog missing since version
                    25.2.5.2"
           Product: LibreOffice
           Version: 25.2.5.2 release
          Hardware: All
                OS: Windows (All)
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: medium
         Component: LibreOffice
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]

Description:
In earlier LibreOffice versions, after a crash or forced shutdown, the recovery
process would automatically reopen unsaved documents when the application
starts.

Since version 25.2.5.2, this no longer happens. Although backup files are still
stored (e.g., in the backup folder), users must now locate and open them
manually. No dialog appears to guide this process, and some users might believe
their data was lost.

This change breaks the expected workflow and convenience. Ideally, LibreOffice
should at least open the folder or show a recovery dialog when unsaved
documents are found.

Suggestion:
→ Reintroduce a user-friendly restore process for unsaved documents upon
startup after crash – either by showing a dialog or automatically opening the
restored files.

Component: UI or AutoRecovery
Severity: Enhancement
Reproducibility: Happens every time
Version: 25.2.5.2

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start LibreOffice 25.2.5.2
2. Create a new document and enter some text
3. Force LibreOffice to close (e.g., kill process or system crash)
4. Restart LibreOffice

Actual Results:
LibreOffice starts without offering a recovery dialog. The previously unsaved
file is not reopened. The user must manually find the backup file (e.g., in the
backup folder) and open it manually.

Expected Results:
LibreOffice should detect unsaved work and either:
- open the recovery dialog, or
- automatically open the recovered file(s), or
- open the backup folder to assist the user.

This behavior was present in previous versions and expected after a crash.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
LibreOffice Version: 25.2.5.2 (x86_64)
Build ID: [deinen Build-ID hier eintragen – zu finden unter „Hilfe → Über
LibreOffice“]
OS: Windows 11 64-bit (or your OS)

This change in behavior appeared after updating to version 25.2.5.2. In older
versions, the recovery dialog reliably opened after crashes.
