Thanks for the help. After installing gnome-common 3.18.0, I ran ./autogen.sh.
It says to run make. When I do it looks like the configure script runs over and
over again in an infinite loop. I see "checking" a lot. Here is an example:

cd . && /bin/sh
/Users/me/Desktop/libosinfo-master-c4d379042f57f0512ba3fb5fea2109acc941b460/build-aux/missing
 automake-1.15 --foreign
CDPATH="${ZSH_VERSION+.}:" && cd . && /bin/sh
/Users/me/Desktop/libosinfo-master-c4d379042f57f0512ba3fb5fea2109acc941b460/build-aux/missing
 autoconf
/bin/sh ./config.status --recheck
running CONFIG_SHELL=/bin/sh /bin/sh ./configure
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig --no-create --no-recursion
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... build-aux/install-sh -c -d
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
checking whether make supports nested variables... yes
checking whether UID '501' is supported by ustar format... yes
checking whether GID '20' is supported by ustar format... yes
checking how to create a ustar tar archive... gnutar
checking for gcc... gcc
