I have already completed all the building process according to the book. And
put the new core file and Sysmap to my host Ubuntu system under /boot and use
host's Grub to boot. After screen shows bring up the eth0 interface and set
up the gateway, the cursor just flashes there and I guess the login shell
prompt was supposed to be displayed but it's not. Thank you for your time.

At what point in the book do you get this 'successfully setting up
gateway' message? Are you just starting? Compiling /tools? In chroot?
More details please.
