I'm doing pretty much that. I have an additional vim window open and paste all commands and notes there as well. In the evening I can review and clarify and organize. Hopefully, I'll have a streamlined build when it is all over.
Once again, thanks for the advice. And the deviations note is well-taken. I was doing exactly that, being deviant, and ran into trouble immediately with the gcc build pass 1 ... I did not have directories in the right places and consequently created pain for myself and unnecessarily sought help. I did not realize until kicking off this process that issuing a tar command in a given directory creates the archive directory in one's pwd. In any case. I've stopped in my flight now.
