Okay, this is starting to be a whole lot less fun...

Can someone tell me how I can get xinetd, or telnetd, or something!!! to log
some additional error messages to some log about connection attempts against
telnetd? I've tried using server_args=telnetd -D options -debug in the
xinetd.d config file for telnet, but it doesn't do anything.

Also, in looking through various logs hunting for some more information I
came across this in auth.log:

sshd[2417]: Server listening on :: port 22.
sshd[2417]: error: Bind to port 22 on 0.0.0.0 failed: Address already in
use.
login[2505]: pam_securetty(login:auth): Couldn't open /etc/securetty: No
such file or directory
login[2505]: pam_env(login:setcred): Unable to open env file:
/etc/environment: No such file or directory

These messages occur at the end of the boot process (I'm now running sshd
outside of xinetd to see if I can figure out what's causing the connectivity
failure I reported in an earlier email).
