I have just completed two builds of lfs svn via jhalfs-2.2 and cannot
set the root
password after entering the chroot env. Entering 'passwd root' runs
through the
entire process but does not stop to let me enter a password.

root:/# passwd root
Changing password for root
Enter the new password (minimum of 5, maximum of 127 characters)
Please use a combination of upper and lower case letters and numbers.
Bad password: too short.
Warning: weak password (enter it again to use it anyway).
Password changed.
root:/#

I have found two previous posts with the same problem. One suggested
'echo "root:PASSWORD" |chpasswd' which is only a workaround at best and the
other said he found the problem but didn't post the solution.

Kind regards,

frank
