Still no good. I enabled
CONFIG_I2C=y
CONFIG_I2C_VIAPRO=y
(my mobo's an Asus A8V and the chipset is given as VIA K8T800Pro - VIA
VT8237).
Any more suggestions? Meanwhile I'll take it to the X.org lists.
