I would follow the BLFS development book. It will be the stable book very soon. No one has kept up maintenance on 6.1 in a while. Everyone on the list has been following BLFS-svn for a while now and no really big bugs have crept up. Chris Staub has told us that this needs to be mentioned on the website.
