Seriously, could any of the previous umount commands not have completed
even though it has finished?
I've seen a failure to umount $LFS/dev/shm fairly often: normally,
it works the second time - I only knew it had failed because
$LFS/dev declined to be unmounted. This is on a modern fast
machine.
