Two failures isn't that bad. What hardware are you running on?
Sadly I'm using a little Sony VAIO, PIII850/256MB. I have allocated 128MB to VMware and have enabled a swap space for the LFS LiveCD kernel to use on the virtual drive that my currently being built LFS system resides on.
It's possible the failures are related to VMware. You'll also notice that the are both related to -Os optimization, so maybe you just want to avoid that case to be safe.
How could I avoid using those tests or optimizations and what happens if I compile without them? I assumed that the test was OK and continued, GCC installed fine and has compiled other progs since that have tested via make tests and worked fine after... So far so good :-)
One thing I've noticed recently is that the glibc and gcc testsuites can fail if the system is under heavy use. So, you can try to run the tests again, leaving the system alone while they run.
Nothing else is going on in the background, I have even used XP Home(Cough) for being less bloated than XP pro and use my powerbook for web research/normal computer use/lfs pdf viewing.
