I have a preliminary version available at http://www.kenmoffat.uklinux.net/hints and the necessary patches are at ../patches/ (most of them are standard LFS-6.1). For anybody who still doesn't recognise the "pure64" label, it means putting all the 64-bit libraries in lib instead of lib64.
This still has rough edges (glibc testsuite goes awol, ok on rerun or rebuild, and gettext tests fail badly) and it may yet turn out to be a dead end (no 32-bit support at the moment). It works for me (I've used various iterations of it as my normal desktop, apart from when I wanted to listen to realplayer audio), but it's probably not for the novice. Use at your own risk.
