blfs6(blfs-book-cvs-2005-05-16) and have decided to install gnome2. I
havent had a very good experience so far.
I couldn't find a copy of 20050516 so I'm looking at 20050524
Firstly, there are numerous dependencies and secondly, even after
going through all that 'torture' the results that I have obtained are
no where as comparable to what one gets after loading kde and that too
with much less effort.
qt duplicates a lot of standard libraries including, I believe, a lot of
glibc and stdc++. That's why it's so big.
I have installed all the GNOME Core Packages, but when Gnome starts I
get the following deficiencies:
No start icon on the panel. only terminal and file-browser icon are
there.
There is no control center. When I try to build the applets I find
that there are no applets (or their icons) available.
1. have you exported
XDG_CONFIG_DIRS=/etc/gnome/xdg
2. have you executed this
update-desktop-database
Is this normal with GNOME? What happened to the equivalents of kde's
editors
control-centre, office, kdevelop, and scores of other utilities, games
and applications?
3. see Gnome Additional Packages.
