If you have any more trouble with packages using DESTDIR just let me know as I am using a package manager and it uses DESTDIR or a work around. I should be able to help you with that. I have all the package from LFS-7.2 working with DESTDIR and I am just starting BLFS which I am on the security section. Just started it today.
