I prefer to build them so they can be examined before installation. 
That could be in DESTDIR too, but this way doesn't require that.

Do you mean udev.7?  It's not empty for me.  It's 382 lines when 
rendered and I don't see any .so link.  The only issue I see is a 
reference to systemd-udevd.service(8) which is inappropriate for LFS. 
However, I was not planning on changing it.
