Yes, the actual machine time is not as great a savings as I would like, 
however it does make a huge dent in user time for manual builds - no 
matter what, everyone goes through the manual build process of LFS at 
least once - this makes it somewhat less of a beast. Also, the CMMI 
learning experience in LFS is great enough that I don't think cutting 
out 13 packages in chapter 5 is going to hurt that.
