I'm not suggesting LFS include LVM or other similar tools directly.

But if LFS included initramfs, BLFS could include LVM and a whole slew of other 
similar things -- including exotic hardware support -- without breaking 
anything in LFS. As opposed to the current situation, where any hint for modern 
disk tools starts with "build an initramfs, changing your existing boot scripts 
as necessary for compatibility". It moves playing with those disk tools from 
something that can be written in a dozen instructions to a 4-page document.

Plus you really do get things like "boot from a CD" more or less for free if 
you move to initramfs.
