Sigh.

Have I recently reiterated my extreme dislike of anything having to do
with systemd? It seems to be used as a "reason" for a *LOT* of recent
changes coming from RedHat and Ubuntu, which (a) terribly complicate
everything if you're not using systemd, and (b) are of negligible
benefit if you are.

(Or at least, (b) above applies to everything I've seen so far.)

And then they claim it's backward compatible. If that's true, then why
are you changing around the way everything has worked for years?

Argh.

That's not to say that making it a symlink is necessarily bad -- as long
as you're running a recent enough kernel (which we are) to store the
mount options in /proc/<pid>/mounts. (Though they better get the kinks
worked out of NFS and PAM before they do this.) It's just that using
systemd as an argument for changing it around leaves a *really* bad
taste in my mouth.

(See also the last few udev releases, and the current direction of
development. Make life with systemd a *tiny* bit easier, at the cost of
breaking all other systems. Sigh.)

Absolutely agreed.
