I'm not sure it's worth the churn just to remove 1 parameter to the configure 
line.
I've not yet gone over the whole changelog, but the release announcement at
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.lang.awk/browse_thread/thread/941c600d0961d7b6#
doesn't appear to have any critical (e.g. security) fixes in it that would 
warrant
inclusion at this late stage in the 6.5 release schedule.

I don't mind adding it to 6.5 though, if the general opinion is that it belongs 
in
there.
