I posted to the hlfs list, and I must have forgot to post here. I found that if I run 'make install' before 'make check' the glibc test suite results got much better. Without patches, I got a perfect score from glibc-2.8 with gcc42, and one math error from gcc43, using binutils-2.18.50.0.9.20080822. Perfect score from binutils and gcc42, too. I also used --with-cpu=i486 --with-arch=i486, and found that -mtune=native gives me a math error (native=prescott for me). robert
