I don't currently run anything that requires or even can use inotify (that I'm aware of), but I need to test the inotify patch for inclusion in the book. If anyone can provide me a simple method of testing (I'm leaning towards dovecot) that also tests it accurately, I'd appreciate it. I'd like to stay away from gui apps if at all possible because it would take quite some time to get to the actual testing stage.
I haven't checked out dovecot yet. However, both perl and python have inotify modules. Maybe those could help. http://rudd-o.com/wp-content/projects/files/python-inotify/ http://search.cpan.org/~mlehmann/Linux-Inotify2-1.01/Inotify2.pm Also, here's an IBM page that includes a simple application where you can monitor a file or directory. This might be best, and the tar archive contains a README, Makefile, and a test program. Although, the build prefers the local inotify.h. Maybe you can hack it to choose the one in /usr/include/linux. http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-inotify.html ftp://www6.software.ibm.com/software/developer/library/l-inotify/inotify-sample.tar -- Dan -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/lfs-dev FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/faq/ Unsubscribe: See the above information page
