Gerard, some time ago you said you like to have Vim built as early as
possible. Is this still the case? I believe it can be moved right
after the current location of Readline without suffering any
regressions.
Like Jeremy said elsewhere, it is a personal preference.
However, I consider having an editor early on in chapter 6 a good thing.
Not everybody follows the book 100%. Those of us who are more advanced
in building LFS will likely like having an editor available sooner
rather than later since it's going to be build anyway.
One might argue that if you need an editor, just open up another console
on the host system and edit the files that way. That'll work too.
In light of that, there is no technical benefit to having vim built at
the start of chapter 6 as opposed to at the end of chapter 6. It comes
down to being a preference. I'm perfectly okay leaving Vim toward the
end. If the community (all you guys) really really want Vim at the
beginning of chapter 6, it can be done. If nobody cares, let's leave it
where it is.
