The directories shm and pts are not created automagically in /dev
anymore. I just realized, however, that I have no idea how they had come
to exist before. Using 2.6.15.4 and udev-084. In the udev
instructions, add 'mkdir /lib/udev/devices/{shm,pts}' to the first
instruction block. Also, /sbin/udevstart probably ain't gonna work too
well. ;-)
Thanks DJ. I was wondering why I needed to do that too.
As the branch stands I don't seem to have a working hotplug - that it
although udevd is running, no events get monitored by udevmonitor when a
USB device goes in. However since mine is a a non-branch SVN converted
to Udev (no hotplug) I may have missed something.
Are there any specific kernel configs that udev needs that I didn't need
before?
Not that I'm aware of, Richard. I'm trying to get a rebuild of the
branch done this weekend following the book. Unfortunately something's
not quite going right with the toolchain (chapter 6 binutils won't
build). It's certainly operator error, I've just got to figure out
which of my scripts is to blame. Once that's done I'll be in a much
better position to verify the problems you guys are encountering and
offer some more definite advice.
Regards,
Matt.
