Strange. I tried it the last time this topic came up. I was exactly at
that point of my build when the discussion was on and hence tried lot
of different things. The only thing different in my setup is I don't
have /tools/<machine-triplet-dir>, don't know if that affect the
result.

I didn't trust the startfile_prefix thing, hence the last time I built
it, I used the toolchain instructions from DIY.
