No, I get the idea of enabling UTF-8 by configuration.  That's why
this is so attractive.  However, if there is an optional patch for
coreutils in the appendix of the book, then I may or may not have
identical binaries to what you do.  There are actually two options
following what Jim is saying:

1.  Build with UTF-8 compatibility
2.  Configure for UTF-8 compatibility.

I'm saying, get rid of option 1.  Always build with UTF-8
compatibility.  Build Remove the appendix and leave the patches, new
packages, etc. in the book on their normal pages.
